  • Spring swinging

    Yesterday evening I heard spring calling insistently to me.  So I slipped out into the moonlit and stardusted night, and skipped about a bit before I perched on the old board swing* in the back yard.

    Somehow, I felt too staid and suppressed to jive with the spring rhapsody that was swelling around me.  So I loosened my hair from its ponytail, removed my socks and shoes, and, with a burst of song, began rapidly to soar up and down, my head thrown back, my eyes on the moon, and my hands firmly gripping the chains.  The swing is a bit too close to the ground for me to swing back and forth without tucking my legs up a bit, but I didn't let that put a crimp in my joy.  Bend back, bend forward, sail up, sail down, again and again.  The air was warm, the breeze teased my hair, and in the distance I could hear the tree frogs beginning a spring chorus.  I let my voice and heart soar along with my body, and I think the fresh breeze quite aired out some cobwebs that had been gathering in my mind.  I don't know about y'all, but I need moments like this, when nature is just bursting with testimony about its Creator-- moments of sheer beauty, glorious promise, and tender grace.

    -------------------------------------------------------

     * (The swings have delighted many swinging children, and recently they needed reinforcement by Granddaddy.  As long as one sits in the center of the seat, all is well; but if one edges over too close to the chain, your posterior discovers the reinforcements--a metal plate secured with bolts.  )

    I completely understand how hard it is to buy new books. I look at the price and say, "Are you KIDDING me???" But it's such a special treat at the same time. Knowing what condition the book is really in and all of that. It's terrible when someone on Paperback Swap or Amazon doesn't follow the rules... I've received books before that were in horrible condition!

    I love how you wrote this! I could almost picture myself there with you. Do you write poems or essays for fun? I began writing when I was about 16, especially things about nature like this. About two chipmunks chasing each other in the branches of an old apple tree, etc.

    Spring is my favorite season of the year. I don't know where you live, but in Indiana I just saw my first robin last Saturday. We got our first warm day in a long time on Friday, 65 degrees!! I spent most of the afternoon outside soaking in the warm sunshine. Even the birds, squirrels, and cats seem to know when spring is here. All creation praises Him, who brings new life back for us to see each year. He crowneth the year with his goodness. (Psalms)

    I absolutely LOVE what you just wrote! I write too, and what you wrote is exactly something I would put to words! God has given you a wonderful talent!

    Hello Ms. JoAnna,
    You made your site fancy and elegant. The pictures are a nice touch. I see that you have a wide variety of interests and observations here!
    I like to write articles about Jehovah God on my site to help people to really get to know Him, especially in these troubled times. 4You refused to answer when I called out; you paid no attention to my instructions. Instead, you did what I hated, knowing it was wrong. Now I will punish you in a way you dread the most. (Isaiah 66:4) (CEV)

    @SethsSister - I've had that happen only once or twice with Paperback Swap--for which I am thankful.

    @nachbtikvah - I
    do enjoy writing, though I haven't done much lately (look at the blog
    ). . .I do write poems occasionally, but they're usually more
    free verse than rhyming.  (This post is an example).

     I think journal-keeping is what got me excited about writing--and
    I've always liked to write letters, though I'm afraid I do way too
    little of that these days!

    It's gotten cooler here for a
    few days, with a steady dose of spring rain.  I'm in the Old
    Dominion state   You are absolutely right, the animals and the
    creation do know--why, I've had two little bantam chickens decide to
    set (hatch eggs) in the past few days--knowing it's almost spring and
    is thus "mommy-time!"

    @blackvelvetsky2 - Thank
    you!   I do feel it is a gift, and it makes me ashamed that I
    don't use it more often when I know I could.  Sometimes I shy away
    from writing because  1.) It is hard work (I'm not a very fast
    writer!) & 2.) It often requires a certain degree of emotional
    vulnerability/leveling. . .but it's an exercise that I need.

    Thank you all for the comments !  It's encouraging!
